THE
MUNICIPALITIES
On 1 January
2009, a new municipal division came into force. The former 18 municipalities of
Greenland were re-grouped into four municipalities:
- Kommuneqarfik
Sermersooq includes the original municipalities of Ivittuut, Paamiut,
Nuuk, Illoqqortoormiut, and Ammassalik.
- Qaasuitsup
Kommunia includes the original municipalities of Kangaatsiaq, Aasiaat,
Qasigiannguit, Ilulissat, Qeqertarsuaq, Uummannaq, Upernavik, and Qaanaaq.
- Qeqqata
Kommunia includes the original municipalities of Maniitsoq and Sisimiut.
- Kommune
Kujalleq includes the original municipalities of Nanortalik, Narsaq, and
Qaqortoq.
